Plasma Collection & COVID-19 Updates

Plans for Plasma Collection

Both Danbury and Norwalk Hospitals are actively seeking plasma donations from patients who have recovered from COVID-19 and wish to donate plasma.

Donated blood is an important tool for healthcare providers. Your donation may be able to help save a life. People who have fully recovered from the virus may have antibodies in their plasma that can attack the virus. This can potentially be used as a treatment for patients with serious or immediately life-threatening COVID-19 infections.

Nuvance Health is looking to screen volunteers. If you are willing to participate, please follow this link to see if you are eligible:

Note: The State Department of Public Health has been making changes to their Coronavirus data collection systems. The recent fluctuation in case reports are, in part, a result of capturing data it was not properly receiving from some private labs, standardization of case definition, and medical reviews of cases and deaths.

Testing Update

The Westport Weston Health District is pleased to report that an additional COVID-19 testing site will be available locally, beginning in May.  Emergency Management and State Department of Health officials have been working with Hartford Health Care’s St. Vincent’s Medical Center to plan a drive-thru testing center at St. Vincent’s Hospital Behavioral Health Center in Westport.  The testing site is expected to be open seven days per week and able to process between 300 and 500 tests each day. Mark Cooper, Health Director for the WWHD, is grateful to his staff and our community partners for getting this convenient option set up for our residents.   To increase accessibility, doctor’s order will not be needed and patients can expect their positive or negative result within 24 to 48 hours.  This diagnostic test will involve a nasal swab and patients will remain in their cars.  Testing will be conducted by St. Vincent Hospital personnel. Details on the start date and times, as well as the website for more information should be available in the next few days.  Please check back with us in the coming days.
