How can I test my private well water?
Homeowners with private wells are responsible for the quality of their drinking water. While not required, testing is recommended. Click to learn more.
If I’m building a house addition, do I need a permit from the Health District?
The following project types do not require a permit from the Aspetuck Health District:
Replacing windows or siding in an existing structure.
Replacing a roof with an existing structure without raising the roof line or dripline.
Sheds or Patios <200 total square feet on non-permanent foundations (stone dust, crushed stone)
Roof mounted solar panels.
Fencing
Deck renovation on an existing permitted deck with no change in existing dripline footprint.
Non-retaining, loose boulder walls, constructed on grade without the use of a footing will not require a permit or approval from AHD

What can I do with unused or unwanted medications?
Contact your local police department’s non-emergency number. Many police departments have secure medication drop boxes for the public.

What should I do with the tick that I’ve found on my child?
Ticks removed from people can be sent to the State of Connecticut to test for tick borne illnesses. Complete the tick form and drop it off at the Health District. There is a $10 service charge and results will be emailed to you within two weeks.
What should I do if I’ve found a bat in my house?
If you have a live bat, please call a Nuisance Wildlife Control Officer or consult a veterinarian to have the bat euthanized. Call the Health District if you have a dead bat that may need to be submitted to the State of CT for rabies testing. Note that only dead animals can be accepted,
Where can I access my or my child’s vaccination record?
Your healthcare provider reports all vaccinations to CT WiZ (CT Immunization Information System), a web-based system that maintains complete and secure immunization records for people vaccinated in Connecticut. To access your vaccination record in Connecticut, click here.
