*For public health surveillance, COVID-19-associated deaths include persons who tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 disease around the time of death (confirmed) and persons whose death certificate lists COVID-19 disease as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death (probable).

WWHD Clinic Update
The clinical staff of the Westport Weston Health District continues to be busy this summer providing traditional services to residents as well as keeping up with Covid-19 related responsibilities. Louis D’Onofrio, Director of Clinical Care for the Health District, shared the following updates:
- The clinic is open and providing much needed vaccines, telemedicine visits, and the occasional, in-person visit. With school on the horizon, it is important to be sure that your student’s immunizations are up to date. The Westport Weston Health Clinic is only accepting Medicaid insurance at this time
- Contact tracing and COVID-19 patient monitoring continues to account for a large percentage of staff time. Staff have identified and trained a team of volunteers to help with these activities as well. The clinic staff receives and responds to multiple calls each day inquiring about the virus and general health questions. Westport Weston Health Clinic staff provide advice to area businesses and community leaders about reopening plans and protocols.
- The clinic staff is in constant contact with community partners, including the local homeless shelter, regarding COVID-19 testing. We have also consulted with other local health departments on strategies for testing their homeless populations.
- Tick collection for identification and testing is open and most welcome. The Health District recently received a few examples of Lone Star ticks, which were not traditionally found in this area of Connecticut. Health District staff advise residents on ways to prevent tick bites and tick-proof their properties.
- The Health District is actively planning for a flu vaccine clinic for the community. Details on location, dates, and times will be available soon. We have also been strategizing for a potential COVID-19 vaccine clinic when a vaccine becomes available.
- Health District staff has been reviewing community COVID-19 data and studying transmission trends with the intent of eventually publishing the findings. More to come on this exciting project.
