Summer Camps

As the school year draws to a close, many parents are looking into summer day camp options for their children. Per the State of Connecticut Office of Early Childhood, day camps (that were not previously closed) may resume operations on June 22nd provided that they have completed the necessary steps. Local day camp providers will need to consider whether or not to operate their camps based on what is best for their individual organizations. Please check with the camp of your interest to see if they are planning on opening this year.

If a camp decides to open, they  will need to adhere to additional provisions that have been put into place to limit the spread of the virus.

These will include the following:

  • Health screenings for staff and campers
  • Masks, social distancing, and workplace safety measures
  • Hand and respiratory hygiene
  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfection
  • Smaller group sizes
  • Reporting of COVID diagnosed cases of staff or campers
  • Informed consent
  • Transportation protocols
  • Pool protocols
  • Necessary licensing

If you wish to enroll your child in a camp, you will need to call local day camp providers to find out if they plan to open this summer and to learn more about their requirements and protocols. The WWHD will continue to provide updates as information is released by the State of Connecticut.
