*The State of Connecticut’s COVID-19 metric report is now issued five times per week, every Monday through Friday. This report contains combined data that was collected on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This schedule will remain in effect until further notice.

Contacts Need to Sit it Out
The WWHD clinical team is fielding many questions from residents who, after being identified as a contact and getting a COVID-19 test, have tested negative. They wish to be “released” from the recommended 14-day isolation period. To clarify, per the CDC, a negative test for a contact still requires 14 days of isolation from the last day of exposure. We understand that this policy can be frustrating for asymptomatic residents, especially those who wish to return to work, school, and other activities. However, the Health District must follow the prescribed protocol.
At this time, the WWHD will not recommend that a contact to return to work, school, or other activities with a negative test before the 14-day period quarantine is finished. Someone who tests negative can still develop the virus within the 14-day period. The WWHD follows CDC and Connecticut Department of Public Health directives.
- Contact tracing will be conducted for close contacts (any individual within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) of laboratory-confirmed or probable COVID-19 patients.
- Testing is recommended for all close contacts of confirmed or probable COVID-19 patients.
- Asymptomatic contacts testing negative should self-quarantine for 14 days since last exposure (i.e., close encounter with confirmed or probable COVID-19 case)
- If testing is not available, symptomatic close contacts should self-isolate and be managed as a probable COVID-19 case.
Asymptomatic close contacts who are not tested should self-quarantine and be monitored for 14 days after their last exposure, with linkage to clinical care for those who develop symptoms.
