Connecticut Hits Pause Button
Governor Lamont announced that Connecticut’s planned phase 3 of reopening, initially slated for July 20th, is now on hold. Given the increased concern over spikes in virus cases in many states across the country, Governor Lamont noted that he wanted to be cautious and not have to backtrack.
- Bars will remained closed
- Indoor and outdoor dining will remain at 50% capacity
- Gyms will remain at 50% capacity
- Large entertainment venues will remain at 25% capacity
- Private social gatherings will remain limited to 25 people inside and 100 people outside
- Connecticut’s campgrounds will open July 8th, as planned.
As the new coronavirus continues to spread throughout the United States, reports of young people suddenly dying from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, are beginning to surface—and health experts aren’t exactly sure why that’s happening to some, when the disease causes only mild symptoms for most young patients.
Young people are developing Covid-19 at significant rates—and hundreds have died according to an analysis of state data by the Washington Post, at least 759 people under the age of 50 in the United States had died from Covid-19 as of Wednesday. The Post identified at least 45 deaths among patients in their 20s, at least 190 deaths among patients in their 30s, and at least 413 deaths among patients in their 40s. The Post noted that the actual number of Covid-19 deaths among people younger than 50 is likely higher, as not all states report Covid-19 deaths by age.
State and local officials urge residents to do their part and take precautions to reduce the spread of the virus, including wearing face coverings as appropriate, socially distance, and practice hand hygiene. No revised date for phase 3 has been announced yet. The WWHD will update residents as information becomes available.
